Freemat: Complex Arithmetic

Statement of Purpose
Use Freemat to compute complex arithmetic.

Procedure

With these two very useful functions, changing into polar coordinates is simple.

Conclusion
Using Freemat as a calculator is quite useful. Solving systems of complex equations using Freemat also saves much time rather than computing by hand.

MOSFET control of an electric motor

Statement of Purpose
To learn the use of voltage controlled current supply and the discrepancies on a signal caused by a motor.

Procedure

With a constant voltage supply and a MOSFET the current to the motor can be adjusted with a variable resistor.
With a squarewave generated by a function generator, the duty cycle of the function generator controlled the current sent to the motor.

Conclusion
We saw that the current sent to the motor can be adjusted in two ways: by resistance, and the duty cycle. With the variable resistor, control is not easy with a circuit design(i.e. something mechanical must be done), whereas with the duty cycle, only additional electronics was needed to control current.

2nd order circuit

Statement of Purpose
To learn how to solve 2nd order circuits.

Procedure

Conclusion
Solving 2nd order circuits does not always require solving differential equations. In most cases 2nd order circuits involves only solving for initial values and boundary conditions. Then by determining the nature of the dampening find the constant factors for the transient state.
